THE IMPORTANT ROLE OF THE LOGOS IN THE NBA CHAMPIONSHIP

The NBA is one of the most followed sports in the world, more in the US along with American Football and baseball. In addition to the type of game and players, the development of the brand image that each team communicates starting from the structure of its logos fascinates me about this magnificent sport. Nowadays logos have a very important relevance. As we all know, any type of team in any sport is a real company, where it is not just about being a spectator and therefore only talking in terms of sports competition.

Especially the NBA, which has a large number of spectators, the various teams invest a lot of money on communication and marketing. Why? The teams ensure that their viewers recognize their company, for example the merchandising that must communicate a precise identity that represents the city of reference. How? This is where the key role of the Logo comes into play. The logo must be a strong, unique symbol, create a link between the city and the spectators.

Now we will see the analysis of the logos of one of my favorite NBA teams, the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Clevelands changed and revisited their logo over the years but always the concept that referred to the Cavaliers. Why Cavalier? The name Cavaliers is chosen with a poll among the fans to honor the eighteenth-century knights, the colors of the uniform were bordeaux and gold.

The first logo of the knights in 1970 depicted a musketeer with a sword in his hand using two bordeaux and gold colors.

In 1984 the team totally changed the logo, the abbreviation CAVS, where the V symbolized the basket.

In 1994 there was another change with a black and white ball outlined in a white net inside a black background with CAVS written below in blue color.

In 2003 until 2016 the logo had a change in a box of bordeaux color and "Cleveland Cavaliers" seen by a character a little more appealing and with a sword that penetrated to the bottom right from the basket to the "C" in "Cavaliers ".

Finally, the last restyling took place in the 2017/2018 season, which it is my favorite, it presented by a shield design with a gold outline. The shield contains the "Cleveland Cavaliers" mark that appears in the upper part of the shield in white and a golden sword that pierces the letter C.
