Stranger Things, one of Netflix’s most popular TV shows at the moment, is known for its 80s nostalgia. It does an impressive job at referencing and recreating an iconic decade of the 20th century. This can be seen from the very beginning of the show, with its now iconic title sequence.

To achieve this retro look, the studio Imaginary Forces actually went back and used old-fashioned techniques of the credits-making process. The team of designers printed out the main logo on a type of film called Kodalith and set up camera tests to see what it looked like when light passed through the film sheet. Using those shots for reference, they then animated the logo digitally.

The design of the logo itself was based on retro novel covers that the show’s creators used to read when they were kids.
